Plate of Torment… Procedure Room by Nikita Kadan

Sometimes you come across a work of art that stays by you. I had that with the self-portraits of Jan Fabre, and the same happened when I saw the work Procedure Room by Nikita Kadan on the Newtopia exhibition. It consists of a collection of plates adorned with motives of people being tortured. The practices depicted are all quite common police torture techniques in contemporary Ukraine. Special about them is that the people subject to the “Procedures” have serene, unemotional expressions. It’s both exciting and eerie…
