Awkward Objects… Alina Szapocznikow

I have taken to reading art books, as any good Art History student should. I don’t follow time periods or anything; I just grab whatever book my hand touches first when I enter the library. For this time, I got the book on Alina Szapocznikow (yes I have no idea how to pronounce that), a Polish Bergen-Belsen survivor who became a very original artist. Her work, mostly in different types of polyester resin, is both repulsive and enticing… It walks the line between disgusting and delicious, eroticism and exorcism. You can love it or hate it, but somehow it touches you either way, I think. My favorite pieces must be her “Illuminated Lips”… But please check out her other works too, this blog leaves too little space to feature every piece…

About quantumphysica

My name is QuantumPhysica The Insane, but you can call me QP. I am insane, admitted to a mental hospital in Belgium, and waiting for a decent diagnosis at the moment. Once I was a physics student with goals in life and what more; now I'm simply the patient of Room 93. Ever wondered what life is like in the psychiatric ward? I'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know... I am... particularly twitchy of personality. But I also am genuinely interested in everything. There is nothing that doesn't interest me, really. Everything, from quantum computers to fashion and cars to traveling... I also give advice. On anything. No taboos whatsoever. And I make lists of things...

I am constantly amazed at what -you- find on the internet. It’s like an exclusive, hidden sideshow at a circus – dare you view “QP’s Collection of the Sexual Objects and Oddities”

  2. You find some of the neatest stuff
