So I was at the Royal Museum of Art in Brussels last weekend, with a mission: find the eyesore of a painting I have to write a paper on. I had Experiment No.7 with me, so it was quite a fun outing that included eating ice-cream in the snow, and that made the fact the painting I had to look for (Venus Riding A Satyr by Dirck de Quade van Ravesteyn) was ugly as fuck just a little less bad. I can’t say though that my trip to the museum was completely lost effort… there was a temporary exposition there of Jan Fabre’s bizarre collection of self-portraits titled “Chapters”, which I found absolutely awesome. Fabre is also the guy who decorated the Royal Palace’s Ballroom ceiling with beetle wings, for those who remember (featured here). As for the portraits… see for yourself!
That’s him, each time with another expression and a different set of horns, cast in bronze. I’m a big fan of all things horny (ooh, word pun) so you can see why I liked this…
I love these! Very pagan x
I agree 😀
