I’m not used to devote a post to popular culture, but I thought this Eurovision song contest was worth one. I was seriously disappointed because almost none of the songs I liked passed this semi finals…
Israel: Time by Izabo
Despite the fact their keyboard player was wearing a rather bizarre dress and the lead singer had undoubtedly one of the weirdest facial expressions I have ever seen, I really find it a pity Israel didn’t pass the semi finals. The song was retro, poppy and really cute in my opinion, and they had the best backdrop of all contestants (dripping clocks, surrealism oh my!)…

Austria: Woki mit deim popo by Trackshittaz
Okay, admittedly I have a thing for german techno-style music. Can’t help it, every time I hear something like “Disco Pogo” I go all wild. No wonder that I cheered for Austria’s “Woki mit deim popo” (Shake your ass)… They had pole dancers in lime green minidresses, a nice loud backbeat, and when they suddenly went all Tron-style with led lights on their asses, I thought my TV would explode from too much awesome. Damn you people, whyduntyouvoteforaustria?!

Russia: Party for everybody by Buranovskiye Babushki
Russian grannies know how to party… I am grateful for everyone who voted for this adorable troupe of old ladies. They can’t sing or dance -at all- but they are cute and they have a big spinning and smoke-producing cookie oven! The oldest of them is 77 (!) and they collect money in order to save their village church. Just one word: funniesttelevisionsinceinventionofthedamndevicepeople!!

So far my favorites from the first semi finals… Lets hope the second semi finals have more awesome AND LET IT PASS TO THE FINALS TOO!
