So, to begin with: no psychiatrists were harmed in the making of this post (some of them may have had their nerves tested, but that’s not harmful, is it? *demonic giggle*)…
We have a piano on our department. It’s old and sounds totally wrong, but it’s position makes it perfect. It is placed in the common living area, against the wall behind which is the Iron Lady’s (one of the psychiatrists) office. I have never been too much of musical mind, but I am a little sadist at times. So lately I decided I should learn to play the piano…
Method 1: Gnossienne 1 (Erik Satie) on repeat
If there’s one song that gives you the chills when resounding through the dark corridors of a madhouse, it’s to be Erik Satie’s Gnossienne 1. Not meant to be creepy at first, when it is played non-stop around that time of day the sun’s going down and everyone is a little agitated it has exactly the right effect. It’s so sad, fatalistic almost… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI8iVpYaDi0
Method 2: Alice: Madness Returns
To speak of an appropriate game for these surroundings… the slightly psychedelic, dissonant music from the “Alice: Madness Returns” game is among my favorites. I can listen to it for hours… If I would have to give you my favorites that would be “Madness”, “Outro”, “Surreal”, “The Vale of Tears” and “The Hatter”, but actually all the songs are great and worth listening to… When I found the piano sheet for the “Jack Splatter” theme from the game, the Iron Lady has definitely known it… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja1VyMvx_8g&feature=related
Method 3: Atonality
Atonal music is very special… I will be honest with you: I can’t play anything atonal. But making it sound from my computer works pretty well too. Kind of everything from Anton Schoenberg will do, but adding the criteria “dramatic” and “creepy” might help to find appropriate pieces… xD
Eventually the effect is seeing the psychiatrist walk up and down the corridor until we stop, then she enters her office, and as soon as we start again she leaves it and starts walking up and down the corridor again. Very amusing. *has literally nothing better to do, sad really*
I’ve been meaning to get that Alice game but my friend got it and ran into a glitch that her boyfriend had to fix for her. I don’t want to run into a glitch that can’t be fixed! Unless it’s just her game?
I don’t know about the glitch… But I guess if it is common your an find fixes in online fora and stuff… Usually there’s a pretty solid community around those games…
